Welcome Letter from Marsha Foster Boyd

Summer, 2008

Greetings!

If you are considering attending seminary to fulfill the ordination requirements of your denomination, to expand your knowledge of theology or biblical studies, to deepen your understanding of what it means to engage in ministry in an urban setting, or to obtain an advanced degree in the practice of ministry, I invite you to consider Ecumenical Theological Seminary. Here we seek to "provide education for ministry that is grounded in Christian tradition, while welcoming interfaith dialogue. We promote critical reflection by all members of our learning community, as we integrate theology with practice and faith with social responsibility."

ETS sponsors a meal program every Wednesday called “Everyone Eats” where all are invited to share a home-cooked meal. We serve an average of 300 meals each week and the meals are cooked and served by volunteers from churches in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs, as well as students, staff, faculty, and those from the community who want to be of service. This program is a Ministry Practicum site where student interns receive academic credit as they learn how to do effective outreach ministry – unique among theological schools.

I hope you take the time to explore our website to learn about our academic programs as we work to make an impact in Detroit and in Southeast Michigan. Ours is a theological institution committed to participating fully in the growth, development, and spiritual nurture of our community.

We look forward to seeing you here!

In God's Peace,
The Reverend Marsha Foster Boyd, PhD, President
